Philippa Wood

Ouseko, meaning ‘thank you’, is a lifestyle brand founded by Philippa Wood and inspired by the rich tapestry of countries in which she’s travelled and worked. Driven by an appreciation of classical design, craftsmanship and fine textiles, Philippa decided to leave her London-based job and start up on her own.

With her inherent eye for colour and detail, she travels around India sourcing beautiful vintage saris and unusual fabrics that are mostly woven, embroidered or block-printed by hand. Philippa is passionate about preserving these dying arts and always supports local artisans and initiatives, paying a fair price and working closely with small-scale suppliers.

She currently works between her studio in north Goa and a converted barn in Worcestershire, designing and making all her products by hand. The result is an exquisite harmony of traditional and contemporary that celebrates the style, radiance and rich heritage of India.

As Philippa says: “Ever since I can remember I’ve been stitching, making things and rummaging around markets collecting fabrics and beautiful objects that tell a story. It’s in my blood - both my grandmother and my mother were amazing dressmakers - they made everything and we collected sewing machines as my father collected cars.”
